Why Sponsor a Child?

At The Torch Haiti Mission Compound, we are giving children the opportunity to be educated, to have appropriate medical care, and to have at least one nutritional meal per day. We would not be able to do these things without your sponsorship or  your donations.

At the Compound, our goals are many. We have the ability to broadcast the Word of God via radio to a large segment of the country. We are continuing to believe in the drilling of our well to provide an adequate water supply. We plan to provide medical care for the community. These are just initial goals. Our ultimate goal is sustainability. Through various programs, including agriculture, we want to grow the Compound and give the people the tools they need to be successful.

All of this starts with you – our sponsors.

Please prayerfully consider sponsoring one of our children. You can visit the website through http://www.thetorch.net  Click on Haiti and follow the prompts.

Rice and Beans

As told by Pastor Mike Thomas:

School was not in session. I had expected to arrive at The Torch Compound and see all the activity that school children bring to an atmosphere. I also couldn’t wait to feed them. It has been years since the children of this school have been fed a meal on the grounds.

We put the large gas burners in place. The over-sized pots were a welcomed sight to our staff cook Emmanuel. The white of his teeth told me he was extremely happy to cook with such materials. And we started preparing the meal.  haiti 3-9-16 329

Word flowed through the community – the children were wanted at the school. Teachers arrived and the line stretched as long as a New York City block and then some. They stood two-by-two, taking in the smell of the meal. haiti 3-9-16 341

As the staff began to prepare the food on the metal plates we’d purchased, I questioned the portion sizes. Surely the children can’t eat that much? The affirmative nods from the workers caused me to shrug my shoulders, “We’ll see.”

And two-by-two the plates were distributed. The kids walked carefully to the church, not wanting to drop or spill their plates. Row by row they sat, balancing their plate and utensil. The room was so quiet except for the sounds of chewing and swallowing and tummies being filled.  haiti 3-9-16 348

There were those who needed seconds, but seconds were unavailable. The plates were licked clean. There were moments where one child finished and another shared a spoonful from his plate to help. And even though the plates had been filled to the brim with food, it didn’t satisfy the deep hunger of those little dark faces, with eyes that spoke so much but couldn’t say what life was really like.  haiti 3-9-16 378

I am forever changed. I cannot express the hurt in my heart except to say how much more our Father in Heaven hurts for these precious children which He created and loves with a depth we cannot understand.

Currently, there are 192 sponsors. We need 1029 more sponsorship’s.

There have been sleepless nights for me, wondering if what we’ve taken on as a church is unreachable and sustainable. But then I remember the God we serve. The God Who loves you and me and the people of Haiti. The God Who led us to the compound. The God Who is guiding us and pointing us in the right direction.

And I close my eyes, knowing He’s Got This… haiti 3-9-16 399

Our Team is Home!

The voices coming in the front door of The Torch are familiar and excited. It was a great trip and our Team is Home!

We thank God for His goodness and His provision. Many miracles from God happened daily…many miracles.

The Team accomplished great things: the solar panels are in place; a roof is on the barn; the Kindergarten Building was torn down with anticipation of rebuilding it; and the most wonderful part, the children were fed! Our goal is to provide the school children with one meal a day. We are on our way to achieving just that! Praise God!!!

Please look forward to stories and updates as the journey in Haiti unfolds.

We serve a BIG God; therefore,  we dream BIG!

Our team is on the road from Deyemon to Port au Prince, Haiti. Please be in prayer for travel mercies. They will leave Wednesday morning early for the airport and begin the journey home.

We have had little contact with our team in the last 24 hours, but anxiously wait to hear of their trip and all the wonderful blessings from our God.

The picture above is our team. I wanted to publish it before they left and never felt the right moment to do so. I believe it is now. Our thoughts and prayers are with these Godly men as they return from doing His work.

For all of you who participate through donations, prayers, and sponsorship, together we are the hands and feet of Christ. We are all in Haiti. We are all on this journey to change the world,  one child at a time.

As we continue to wait for water, the team in Haiti is working on solar panels today. Saturday, we enjoyed the weddings! Sunday was filled with worship and prayer in The Torch Haiti churches. And the teams’ favorite part of any day is spending time to love on the children.

Pictured is Chad Cooper, a member of our mission team. He and his wife Christie sponsor these two children.  Please consider a sponsorship. There are so many needs! What a blessing you will be to one of the children here in Deyemon, Haiti.

Looks Promising

It has been an exciting day in Haiti!

We received a text stating: “Water is at 400ft. Stopped for tonight. Back at it at 7am. Looks Promising. They have some water, but will blow it out in the morning to see what we have. Cannot explain how bad these people need this.”

Jeremiah 29:11

” ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’ “

Good Morning from Haiti

Today we begin drilling for water.

Please be in prayer for all who are involved in the process and for provision from our Father. We are believing GREAT and MIGHTY things.

Matthew 19:26, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”

Pray for the families of our mission team. They are carrying the load here while their loved one is in Haiti. Reach out to them! A simple, “Anything I can do for you?” would be greatly appreciated.

Haiti, We’re Here!

Our team arrived safety last night in Haiti. The Lord blessed them with a wonderful Guest House. They are on the road to Deyemon today. Pray for safe travels. It is quite a trip – over 8 hours on rough terrain.

Tomorrow the drilling for the well at The Torch Compound will begin! We are excited to see God show up and show out. I’m reminded of the scripture in Isaiah 41:18, “I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.”

We are believing great things!

In Search of Water

Today, we leave for Haiti in search of water.

In Deyemon, Haiti, at The Torch Compound, we are drilling for water so that there will be an adequate supply for the Torch Medical Clinic, Torch Christian Academy, and Torch Orphanage. Currently, the city relies upon a cistern. Haiti is considered a water-stressed country. With 80% of the country’s population living below the poverty line, few water treatment facilities are properly functioning for the general public in the country.  Haiti’s seasonal rainfall patterns provide too much rain for some during segments of the year and too little for others during the dry season.

It is a leap of faith. Friday morning the drills will penetrate the earth, and we are believing great things from God.

37 “On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, ‘Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)” John 7:37-39

Our construction team will also be working on the roof, plumbing, and electrical needs at The Torch Compound. I plan to meet with the teachers and leaders of the school. We continue to work with Food for the Poor to provide for the needs of the people. It is overwhelming all that God is doing for us and through us in Haiti.

Because of your support, children will be learning about God, geography, history, reading, and math. Because of your support, the sick with be provided medical care and vaccinations. Because of your support, the Word of Jesus Christ will spread through out  Haiti in The Torch churches and via the radio station.

YOU are being the hands and feet of Jesus.
